fun facts, quotes, and pictures from history
Captain John Paul Jones was a member of the Continental Navy during the American Revolution. He is most famous for the sea battle between his Bonhomme Richard and the HMS Serapis. His ship was sinking, and fires were starting on board. When the British captain offered terms, he declared “I have not yet begun to fight!” In the end, the British commander surrendered to him. But that wasn’t the least of his awesomeness. He decided to take the war to Britain, so on his own initiative John Paul Jones sailed along the English coast, waylaying boats and embarrassing the best navy in the world. He even “invaded” Britain, occupying a seaside mansion and dining with his noble “host.” After the war, John Paul Jones got bored. So he volunteered for the Russian Royal Navy.
