The Church Defends Jews?

In the early 12th century, the Catholic Church released a Papal Bull saying

“[The Jews] ought to suffer no prejudice.  We, out of the meekness of Christian piety, and in keeping in the footprints or Our predecessors of happy memory, the Roman Pontiffs Calixtus, Eugene, Alexander, Clement, admit their petition, and We grant them the buckler of Our protection.

Which basically means, Jews have full religious freedom and should be treated without prejudice. This was waaaay ahead of it’s time. Of course, later the pope issued bills saying the exact opposite, and commanding faithful Christians to discriminate against Jews. Which sounds more like the Catholic Church I know and….know.
