Queen Margaret was born in Hungary in the eleventh century, and brought to England to be raised by her relative Edward the Confessor. Her brother was elected king after the king died at the Battle of Hastings, but he was deposed by Williams the Conqueror before he was crowned. Margaret survived the bloody conquest, and went to Scotland, where she married King Malcolm III in 1070. She became renowned in Scotland for her good deeds (she was famously good to the poor), being wife of the man who overthrew Macbeth, and her tireless reform of the Scottish church. A chapel is still named for her in Edinburgh Castle.
