Gross, But Interesting

Scaphism, also known as the boats, was an ancient Persian method of execution designed to inflict torturous death. The name comes from the Greek word skaphe, meaning “scooped (or hollowed) out”. The victim was lashed into the hollow space between two rowboats, or hollowed-out logs. He was forced to eat milk and honey until he had severe bowel problems. Then he was left floating in a stagnant pond or in the sun. The feces would attract insects, causing extreme pain, as one can imagine. Sometimes, the victim would continue to be fed until they died, to ensure starvation or dehydration did not get them first. One soldier was killed this way for boasting about killing Cyrus the Younger; he survived for seventeen days before dying in extreme pain.
