fun facts, quotes, and pictures from history
Manetho, an Egyptian priest living during the early Ptolemaic period in Egypt, was the person to group ancient Egypt into the Kingdoms system we use today. Before that, Egyptians divided their history by dynasty, ie, kings who were related were put together. This is not the case with Manetho’s system, which is rather confusing sometimes. For instance, his 18th dynasty starts with Ahmose, brother of the last king of the 17th dynasty. I would put them together, but he didn’t, and no one knows why not. Another weird choice is Tuthmosis I, who was not related in any way to the pharaoh before him, but they’re still in the same dynasty.
